The Canteen in Indiranagar is one of the most budget friendly restaurant in the city of Bengaluru. They are surely giving a tough competition to Bob’s bar which is located just a few blocks down. I have been here a couple of times and I have enjoyed the food more than anything else. They have their own brewery which offers beers at dirt cheap prices. The ambiance is pretty nice, they have a separate section for smokers, with the view of 100ft road, this is indeed a nice place to hangout with your family and friends.
I tried the Basmati Beer that day as they usually have three flavors per day, they work on rotation so you never know which beer is available until you reach the place. They have a total of 6 different beers to choose from. Basmati beer is not that strong, it is sour and tastes sweeter than your regular beer.
Cosmopolitan on the other hand was not their best cocktail. The combination of vodka, lime, and cranberry was not perfect and this was a disappointment. It may sound easy to prepare but it surely needs a lot of effort and practice to perfect it.
Prawns Masala Fry is coated with red chilli paste and cooked to perfection. The prawns are soft and the batter is well made, you get onions along with some chips and chutney along with this dish. The USP of the Canteen is that they server by the piece as well, thus making sure you do not waste any food and moreover you get to taste everything that they have to offer.
The Desi Fish Finger is a very different take on the classic Fish Fingers. This is like a mirchi bajji, except you replace the chill with fish. With the right amount of chutney, this indeed is a surprise package.
Gulab Jamun is served on basis of a single piece, it is perfectly made with the texture being soft and the syrup not very sugary as well.
Pista Phirni was my last dish and I have to say the consistency is brilliant and the taste ever so better. The ingredients are well mixed and is a must for the sweet lover.
